"Impacting Our Islands One Voice at a Time"
by M'Kayla Sullivan
STT, UVI December 2018- UVI is improving largely, and is becoming more and more involved with crating new activities and even bringing back old ones! Something refreshing that is coming back to the St. Thomas campus is the new and updated Cheerleading Squad!
Led by 17-year-old Vernele Callwood, who plans on rejuvenating the team and having a huge comeback in the UVI community. Verneele believes that cheerleading is a necessity for school, she believes that having a good support system for our teams is important as it encourages the players to keep playing and to push through even to the end.
As of now, Vernele says that she does not have any written plans for the future of the cheer team but she says that they are going with the flow, but she proudly exclaims that “The UVI community should expect a group of vivacious ladies who will be cheering their hearts out for our teams here at UVI!”
The UVI Cheer Squad
Thanks to Alexandria Baly-Stanford, who is the coordinator/coach of the new UVI Cheer Squad, the team was able to officially start back up. Verneele and the co-captain Sheeniqua Venzen have high hopes for the squad. The squad is filled with a number of ladies who are very committed and ambitious and excited to show everyone what they have to offer. Very soon, you should expect to see the cheerleaders around campus as they cheer and also participate in fundraisers and create fun activities for the students who attend UVI.
